Sri Lankan Biology Olympiad was held on 29 June 2008 from 10.00 to 12.00 noon.

Results will be issued someday between 25 August - 5 September, 2008. All marks will be displayed in this the website, applicant will be sent letters informing the results after 30 August. Those who score more than 50% of the marks will be awarded a merit certificate from IOB.
Medal winners will be notified and will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and IOB sessions on September 2008 at Colombo. They will also be felicitated with other National Olympiad winners (such as Physics, Mathematics Olympiad) at World Science Day Ceremony, organized by National Science Foundation held at BMICH, Colombo in November. Four best students will be eligible to participate International Biology Olympiad to be held in Tsukuba, Japan in July 2009. (But to participate International Competition age of the contestants should be below 20 years of age on 30 June 2009.)

Students who will be sitting for Local or London A/L exams in 2008 or 2009 are eligible to apply. There is no age barrier for Sri Lankan Biology Olympiad. (But to participate International Competition age of the contestants should be below 20 years of age on 30 June 2009.)
• Applicant should complete the application form and mail it with the application fee to the following address on or before 08 May 2008 (Deadline is over).

• Application fee is Rs. 400.00, which could be paid by a cheque drawn in favor of Institute of Biology, Sri Lanka
• In a situation where a cheque cannot be issued, then the fees can be paid in a money order. All money orders should be written in favor of Dr K M E P Fernando, Treasurer, Institute of Biology, payable at Post office, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Nugegoda .
• The examination to select the winners will be conducted from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon on Sunday 29 June 2008 at the following Centers:
2008 is the first year for Sri Lankan Biology Olympiad. To be eligible for the International Biology Olympiad it is required to observe the international competition for one year. Therefore it is hoped to send Sri Lankan competitors for IBO in 2009 which is to be held in Japan in 2009 July. 2008 Olympiad will be held in India from 13- 20 July.

• Candidates are required to sit for two hour paper with 50 MCQ questions and 25 short answer questions.
• The examination is mainly based on G.C.E. Advanced Level Biology curriculum and may also include questions on the current developments and the application of Biology.
• Candidates can choose to sit for the examination in Sinhala, Tamil or English medium.
• Admission cards will be sent to the selected candidates before 10 June 2008.

Sri Lankan Olympiad examination will be based on International Biology Olympiad and Sri Lankan Advanced Level Biology examinations. You may get some idea about international competition by downloading their questions at International Biology Olympiad. But please remember that questions in Sri Lankan Olympiad contains 5 choices for MCQs. Also some questions in International Competition is not appicable to our syllabus.
• Gold, Silver or Bronze medals will be awarded to selected candidates based on their performance. Decision of the council of the IOB shall be final in the selection of winners.
• Those who score more than 50% of the marks will be awarded a merit certificate from IOB. All results will be published in this website (www.iobsl.org). .

Arun Rajaratnam of Trinity College, Kandy won a Silver Medal at the International Biology Olympiad held at Taipei, Taiwan which concluded on 17 July 2011.
