How to Join the Institute

The advantages of becoming a member are mutual. The Institute will turn to you for your contribution towards its programs, and you are likely to benefit from the programs and in the advancement of your career. The programs include an annual meeting at which members can present communications, public lectures on current issues in Biology, workshops in new technologies, publication of educational material and school seminars and exhibitions.

The “code of ethics” will apply to all members of the Institute of Biology (IOB) including institutions which are corporation members of the IOB.

Categories of Membership

There are two major categories of membership.

Corporate members

Non-corporate members

The categories of Membership shall be entitled to the exclusive use, after their names, of the respective abbreviated designations as appropriate.

Fellows: F.I. Biol. (Sri Lanka)
Honorary Fellows: Hony. F.I. Biol. (Sri Lanka)
Chartered member: C. Biol (Sri Lanka)
Members: M.I. Biol. (Sri Lanka)
Associate: A.I. Biol. (Sri Lanka)
Licentiates:L.I. Biol. (Sri Lanka)

Eligibility for each category depends upon a combination of professional experience and academic qualifications.
